Heyfield Medical
Centre
- Is the only Medical
Practice servicing Heyfield and environs (6,500 people) we have 3
resident GPs and a Gippsland Education & Training for General
Practice (Southern GP Training) GPT1 term Registrar.
- Is co-located with Heyfield Hospital, an integrated site with 10 acute Hospital beds, a 30 bed Aged Care
Hostel and 22 Nursing Home beds. The Practice provides all of the
medical services for this 60 bed facility, and the PGPPP doctor will be
involve in this service delivery.
- We have no visiting or resident
Medical specialists.
- We have visiting Physiotherapy,
Chiropractic, Podiatry, Massage and Child Health Nurse Services.
- Heyfield Hospital is part of
Central Gippsland Health Service and its Sale campus, 30 minutes away
provides the vast majority of our Specialist support, with 4 General
Physicians, 3 General Surgeons, 2 Paediatricians, and 3 Obstetricians.
- Dr Peter Stevens was the founding Director of Training with
Gippsland Education & Training for General Practice (Southern GP
Training) and Drs Peter Stevens and Dr Lynden Derrick are accredited GP
Supervisors with Southern GP Training.
- The Practice is unconditionally
accredited with AGPAL and an accredited ACRRM and RACGP GP training site
for all levels of GP Training; we currently host 2 John Flynn scholars.
- Heyfield Medical Centre is an
accredited training site for the “Small Town ARSP” and in fact Dr Lynden Derrick was the Registrar hosted in the original pilot of this innovation undertaken by
Heyfield Medical Centre, Southern GP Training, ACRRM and RACGP.
- Drs Peter Stevens and Dr Lynden Derrick have appointments with Monash University School of Rural Health and host Medical
students for GP attachments and PBL tutorials.
- The facility
also has an ACCOG sponsored self contained 2 bedroom accommodation for
Registrars and / or students.
