Interpreter Services

Latrobe Regional Hospital provides accredited/qualified interpreters for medical treatment

and can be provided on site or via telephone conferencing.

Patients, families and/or carers from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) backgrounds

are informed of the availability of language services

Interpreters or translators shall be used for patients/clients from CLD backgrounds when:

  • A request for an interpreter or translator is made

  • A patient needs to be informed of their rights

  • A patient needs to give informed consent

  • A patient needs to be advised of critical information relating to their health and wellbeing and/or participate in decision making related to medical

and other human service matters

  • A person prefers to speak, or is more fluent in a language other than English

  • Verbal communication, unrelated to a medical condition, proves difficult

Note: Family members may only interpret for non-medical concerns, e.g. ‘would you like a magazine’ etc.
