

Interpreter
Services
Latrobe Regional Hospital provides accredited/qualified
interpreters for medical treatment
and can be provided on site or via telephone
conferencing.
Patients, families and/or carers from Culturally and Linguistically
Diverse (CLD) backgrounds
are informed of the availability of language services
Interpreters or translators shall be used
for patients/clients from CLD backgrounds when:
- A request for an interpreter or
translator is made
- A patient needs to be informed of their rights
- A patient needs to give informed consent
- A patient needs to be advised of critical
information relating to their health and wellbeing and/or participate in
decision making related to medical
and other human service matters
- A person prefers to speak, or is more fluent in a
language other than English
- Verbal communication, unrelated to a medical
condition, proves difficult
Note: Family members may only interpret for non-medical
concerns, e.g. ‘would you like a magazine’ etc.
