Flynn
Unit
The Flynn Unit is located within the Latrobe Regional
Hospital Traralgon West Campus.
Flynn is a 33-bed adult mental health inpatient unit
delivering acute treatment and medium term rehabilitation for adolescent patients
through to age 65.
The Unit focuses on providing patients with treatment,
education and rehabilitation, which will allow them to return to their
communities to begin the recovery journey.
Flynn provides patients with an environment that delivers a
range of therapeutic interventions ranging from medically-based
pharmaceutical interventions to social, psychological
and recreational therapies.
The needs of the patient are met through a team of health
professionals including nursing, medical and allied health, along with client
and carer consultants.
Flynn strives to provide the client and their family with a
smooth journey through what is a stressful period in their lives fraught with
anxiety.
Admissions are usually nine to 12 days in duration and most
patients leaving the Unit continue to receive specialist care in the
community from a case manager.
While a stay in Flynn will not “cure” mental illness, the
Unit provides education to the client and family about the treatment
therapies, illness dynamics and ways to prevent relapse or extended periods
of illness.
