Latrobe Regional Hospital
Mental Health Services
Just as mental illness affects people differently, Latrobe Regional Hospital offers a varied range of services to accommodate the differing
needs of Gippslanders.
The Hospital’s comprehensive integrated community mental
health service provides support 24 hours a day, seven days a week across
Gippsland.
Eight community mental health centres are located in
Traralgon, Sale, Bairnsdale, Orbost, Wonthaggi, Korumburra, Warragul and
Yarram.
The community mental health centres offer a wide range of
mental health services for adults, children and adolescents to assist in
managing their mental health outside the Hospital.
The primary focus is on early intervention, assessment,
treatment and rehabilitation of individuals within their usual environment.
For acute patients, the Flynn Unit is located within the
Latrobe Regional Hospital Traralgon West campus.
Flynn is a 33-bed adult mental health inpatient unit
delivering acute treatment and medium term rehabilitation for adolescent
patients through to age 65.
Latrobe Regional Hospital’s Macalister Unit cares for
people over the age of 65 who have a mental illness.
The Unit is made up of 10 psycho-geriatric nursing home
beds for interim residents and 10 acute assessment beds.
The Hospital also operates Community Residential Care Units
(CRCU), providing residential rehabilitation for people with prolonged severe
mental illness and associated disability.
