Thomson Unit

 

The Thomson (Maternity) Unit is a state-of-the-art obstetric facility that offers mothers and their children tailored, safe and caring treatment in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods.

 

The Unit is staffed by a specialist team of midwives, obstetricians, mothercraft nurses, lactation consultants, division two nurses and paediatricians who work together to provide patients with the highest quality of care.

 

Thomson has 20 standard beds and a six bed Level 2 Special Care Nursery that is fully equipped to care for babies with special needs.

 

Latrobe Regional Hospital's postnatal care extends to a breastfeeding support service and home visits.

 

Antenatal care can be provided by:

·         General Practitioner (GP) or specialist obstetrician in a clinic setting

·         A midwife at LRH and a GP at a clinic based in the community - providing the GP has clinical privileges at the hospital

·         A midwife and a specialist obstetrician 'shared care' at Latrobe Regional Hospital.

·         Care of babies with special needs in the Level 2 nursery

·         Pre-admission booking and tour of the Unit

·         Antenatal shared care program

·         Antenatal breast feeding classes

·         Antenatal education classes

·         Antenatal monitoring

·         Antenatal admissions for conditions of pregnancy

·         Special needs midwife program

·         Care in labour

·         Postnatal care

·         Domiciliary visits following discharge

·         Breastfeeding support service

·         Training for midwives and medical staff
