Diabetes Education
Latrobe Regional Hospital provides a
comprehensive diabetes education and management program that aims to maximise
the quality of life for patients with type one or two diabetes.
All patients with diabetes admitted to Latrobe Regional Hospital are seen by a diabetes educator who assists in developing their
treatment management plan.
Educators also see all inpatients that display symptoms
of diabetes as well as women with diabetes in pregnancy (gestational diabetes).
If diagnosed with diabetes whilst an inpatient at Latrobe Regional Hospital, the patient undergoes consultation with an educator prior to
being referred to a community health service for further care.
The Diabetes Educators are Registered Nurses who have both
post graduate and specialist training in managing people diagnosed with diabetes.
While we have strong professional links with health
professionals in the community, we do not have an outpatient service or
accept referrals from General Practitioners.
