New space to see a specialist
A 'one stop shop' for specialists is open for business at Latrobe Regional Hospital.
A new $3 million consulting suite provides clinical space and treatment rooms for up to 33 hospital-based and visiting specialists. It replaces a smaller building which was destroyed by fire in May 2016.
The rooms will be used by paediatricians, cardiologists, vascular specialists, obstetricians, gynaecologists, general physicians, urologists and ear, nose and throat specialists. The hospital's ante-natal clinic is also based in the new building.
LRH Chief Executive Peter Craighead said the larger purpose-built facility will cater for future demand for specialist services in the Latrobe Valley.
"There are a lot of elements which will hold us in good stead including the light, bright design, sustainable energy measures such as double glazing and low voltage lighting and low maintenance clinical and treatment areas," Mr Craighead said.
The building features a self service kiosk enabling patients to check themselves in on arrival, rather than wait for assistance from a receptionist.
There is also a large waiting area for patients and a separate room with toys and a large screen television for paediatric patients.
