Specialist care for you

Access to specialists at LRH has improved following the opening of new larger consulting suites on site.

The Gippsland Private Consulting Suites (GPCS) provide treatment rooms for specialists to assess people locally, rather than travel to Melbourne.

On any given day, the 33-room consulting suites are a hive of activity. The expanded facilities mean specialists are able to see patients more often.

GPCS Business Manager Sophie Laurence said many people were unaware of the range of services available.

Adults are able to access ante-natal care, surgeons, nephrologists, endocrinologists and cardiac specialists while paediatric care is available for children.

There is also a ‘rapid response clinic’ which provides specialist care to people who may have had a hospital stay and require further assessment.

“Our specialists were spread across the site – in other consulting suites and in the hospital so bringing them all together under one roof has raised awareness about the services we’re able to provide,” Sophie said.

“The community has welcomed the modern facilities and the children’s area for our paediatric patients has been popular.”

Sophie concedes patients in the past may have found the consulting suites difficult to contact. The administration team has been focused on improving access to information and appointments.

“We know people have had difficulties reaching us by phone and booking an appointment however we have improved our phone systems and technology so there is a much shorter waiting time for assistance,” she said.

“We’ve also ensured information shared between the specialists and GPs is timely. This is a new start for our consulting suites and the feedback from the community has really made a difference.”

The Gippsland Private Consulting Suites are in a new building located at the eastern end of the LRH precinct. To contact GPCS phone 5173 8111.
