Kay starts conversation about mental health
A woman who was shot in the face at close range shared her courageous recovery with people attending Latrobe Regional Hospital’s International Women’s Day luncheon in March.
Kay Nesbit has endured more than 60 operations to reconstruct her face and jaw since the shooting in 1985.
Australia watched 30 years ago as Kay began her recovery and became an advocate for victims of crime.
After moving to Gippsland, she has run for State Parliament and has worked in the mental health sector.
She says she is passionate about supporting people with mental health issues having struggled with depression and at one point planning to take her own life.
A record crowd of 200 people attended the luncheon which raised about $4500 for the hospital's Mental Health Appeal.
