Harriers make a heartfelt donation

Runners who took part in the Traralgon Marathon Running Festival have contributed $15,500 towards the purchase of medical equipment for Latrobe Regional Hospital to support people with serious heart conditions.

The generous donation was made by Traralgon Harriers president Will Hanrahan to LRH Board Chair Kellie O’Callaghan after the event.

"Since 2013, the Harriers have raised almost $66,000 for LRH which has helped us purchase new equipment and provide facilities for our patients that we may otherwise not have been able to," Ms O’Callaghan said.

"This latest donation will go towards our Heart 2 Heart Appeal which will help us buy equipment for our new cardiac catheterisation laboratory, a major feature of the hospital’s expansion."

The new catheterisation laboratory is a first for Gippsland and will enable LRH to better respond to heart health conditions by providing scope for diagnostic and treatment procedures that have not been offered locally.

The Heart 2 Heart Appeal is continuing to receive widespread community support following its launch in October last year.

One of the items on LRH’s wish list is a diathermy machine which is essential in many surgical procedures and can reduce blood loss, relieve pain and improve recovery times.

The diathermy machine costs $42,000 and is the key item for this year’s LRH Tax Giving initiative. All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible and can be made through this website or by contacting Fundraising Manager Kylie Gore on 5173 8577.
