Lung function service resumes

Latrobe Regional Hospital’s lung function testing service will resume from 4 July following the arrival of new equipment from Germany.

The service has been out of action for the past month after the lung function testing equipment was destroyed by a fire in the hospital’s consulting suites. The equipment which was insured, was funded by the Victorian Government last year coinciding with the reopening of the Hazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry.

The new Latrobe Lung Function facility has been set up in a treatment room on the first floor of the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre.

Lung function tests measure lung capacity and their effectiveness in distributing oxygen into the blood stream. Patients are usually referred to the testing service by their GP or specialist.
